Chapter 6:
Drop what you’re doing and go to the ER!
I called in sick after the huddle. I just wasn’t feeling good. My stomach didn’t agree with me either and I ended up getting my period that night. Well, at least it wasn’t food poisoning! I tend to get pretty sick before I pay my monthly duties. I think it’s because of the uterine fibroids. Everything proceeded as usual but the pain in my leg was still there. Over the weekend, my toes started to feel a bit strange, like they were getting little sparks of electricity so I kept stretching and moving around. Then I started to have a strange sensation on the back of my thigh. It felt as if warm water was being poured down from my hip to above my knee. At first, I thought it was my period. But then it started to happen more often. I ignored all that and went about my weekend to celebrate my sister’s birthday with home-cooked meals. I introduced her to my chicken tikka masala that weekend…hmmm sooo good.
Before I knew it, the last week of August was here, and mom and I had not been able to Dash. So I did a few rounds here and there to get some spending cash for a Shrimp baseball game I had planned with my friends on Friday. I love to be at the field on the nights they end the games with fireworks. Just grab a large beer, sit down to watch a game, and wait for the fireworks…very American. Turns out, I wasn’t going to be able to go.
On Thursday before the game, I left work and turned on the Dasher app to run some errands and make some drops on my way home. I did 4 deliveries and went up 3 flights of stairs twice that night. On my last delivery, God told me, “Make this your last drop and go to the ER”. I was in pain, but I was also tired and hungry, and it was almost 10 pm. So I called my mom and told her I was heading out to the ER to make sure the leg pain wasn’t anything serious, like a blood clot. At this point, it had been more than 2 weeks with non-stop pain. So I drove myself to an ER close to my house and before I parked God said: “No, not here, go to Mayo Clinic.” I was so hesitant, thinking how far it was I put the address on maps just to see how far it would take and to my surprice it was only 10min away (it’s usually 20+min but it was late). So I made my way to Mayo’s ER.
